Preparation Checklist
- Notify Us: If you take blood thinners (Warfarin, Rivaroxaban), are on antibiotics, or have a latex allergy.
- Clothing: Wear loose garments. You may need to wear a gown for hip or shoulder injections.
- No Driving: You must arrange transport home as local anaesthetic can cause temporary numbness.
The Procedure
Under sterile conditions, the Radiologist will use ultrasound to find the target. After cleaning the skin, a local anaesthetic is often used to ensure the procedure is near-painless.
Post-Procedure Care
- Rest: Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 24–48 hours to allow the medication to settle.
- Pain Management: You may feel "sore" as the anaesthetic wears off. Use paracetamol if needed.
- Timeline: Steroid benefit typically starts at 3-5 days and peaks at 2 weeks.
